Hierarchical Stars sumi ink on washi

I’m intrigued by the complexity of human interiority—our private thoughts, quiet tensions, and the small violences that surface within any societal structure. I imagine this structure as a hierarchical ladder, where each figure looks down without empathy at the one below, until the gaze finally settles on the lowest rung.

I explored suminagashi, an ancient Japanese technique in which ink is floated on water to form delicate, swirling patterns that are then transferred onto paper. The drifting forms created on the water’s surface evoke for me the inner landscapes of the human mind: fluid, unstable, layered, and complex. In totality, they create emotional currents, shifting identities, and the invisible tensions that shape our interactions.

Through this work, I want to invite viewers to reflect on the unseen hierarchies we inhabit and the emotional worlds that constantly move beneath the surface of our lives.
